Cbeyond SMB Tips: Small Business Balance Begins with Planning

By SMB News on November 7th, 2011

Small business owners rarely have time to focus on particular task each day, but clarifying their goals and responsibilities can lead to future success if proper steps are implemented.

According to a recent Small Business Trends report, small business workers are encouraged to identify every aspect and duty they perform and set realistic goals. Since owning a small business is a big commitment, owners must also work “on” their company and not simply “in” their company on a daily basis.

When hard times hit small businesses, staff is one area companies cut back on. According to SBT’s Nellie Akalp, business owners should take the opposite tack, instead looking at their companies’ weaknesses and bringing on more help that can fill these gaps.

Akalp also said that small business owners who bring on more staff should relinquish some of their duties to empower their employees. Another key strategy small businesses can use is to make sure they do not lose touch with their consumers and keep up with customer service and sales.

Despite the economic outlook, a recent Forbes report asserted that small businesses can still be successful by identifying consumer groups who are in need of their services and not cut their marketing dollars.

Cbeyond SMB News: New report offers small businesses several management tips

By SMB News on October 27th, 2011

In the hectic small business world, many companies have a lot on their plate, which can lead to difficulty managing every aspect of their operations.  According to a recent Small Business Trends report, there are successful ways small businesses can manage their meetings, money and marketing more effectively. The news provider’s John Mariotti believes small businesses should host meetings with a sense of urgency to ensure matters get done and time isn’t wasted.

For marketing strategies, small businesses are encouraged to pay for services that they truly need, so unless a company is actually in the marketing business, they most likely don’t need a full-time marketing position, according to Small Business Trends’ Ivana Taylor.

Also, the news provider’s Laurel Delaney said small businesses can manage their money more effectively by cutting their export sales costs.

“If you use a price-reduction strategy merely as a knee-jerk reaction to a rough economic climate, it won’t work over the long haul,” said Delaney. “You must develop an export action plan that supports a process.”

Despite the economic outlook, small businesses can actually expand their brand by using an online marketing strategy to capture local businesses according to a recent OnlineNewsWebsite.com report.
